The Bear

The Bear is the kind of workout I call a grinder. There are definitely strength and endurance components to it, but most often the limiting factor becomes discomfort. You will see that clearly in the video especially bringing the bar down to the back of the shoulders. These are factors you just have to grind your way through. I love this WOD for that very reason. The mental toughness that is gained from dealing with discomfort may be one of the most valuable things we can gain out of our WODs…or am I just crazy. Maybe it isn’t worth doing and is dangerous. Any thoughts?

  1. Such a GREAT VIDEO! I want to go out and do The Bear now!!! You are so tough (mentally and physically) and strong. Body Weight Bear is unheard of! Way to go.

  2. Nice job Charity….

I don’t think I would want to do this at your body weight let alone mine :o ) well maybe at yours….

  3. Holy crap Charity, you are tough and crazy! How do you keep your grip the entire time and I hope you had some kind of padding on your back other than that sweatshirt! Wow, way to go, if you can do that Bear work out you are gonna kick butt at the games!!!!!!!

  4. I apologize, I do not add comments because she is my daughter, but as a mom I have to add to this. While in gymnastics her nic name was Bear, because she attacked everything she did and she still does. I am so proud of her as an athlete, as a mom, as a wife and as my daughter and my friend, she is awesome in all areas of her life. I love you!!

    God Bless you

  5. As rx’d: 13:01 (down from 13:27 last time)

Went straight through everything without stopping (other than a few sips of water in between now and then). I guess I can just try doing everything faster and not drinking any water next time.

  6. Amazing! Very inspiring Charity!

Workout this morning was tough, but a great challenge. First time doing this working. Finished in 18:01.

  7. My grip hurts just watching that video. Damn I miss that garage. Nice work, Coach C!!
