Kris vs. Karen

If you know Kris you know a couple things about her. She is strong and she doesn’t like to lose. Today she had to face off with Karen. This is where strong comes in handy. Strong people do well at wall ball shots. Kris already held our gym record for Karen before walking in the door today. 13:22 was her time with a 15# ball to a 9′ target. Now lets talk about her competitive side. As she came in and began her warm up anxiety increased (pre-WOD anxiety…a sign of a true CFer). She confessed to me that she had been thinking about this all day and was trying to figure her strategy to improve on her time. I could tell also the importance of this WOD, due to the extra time and care spent during the warm up. There was just a bit more focus. She knew everything had to be just right to get a PR today. No, holding the gym record is not enough for Kris. She must PR today because it is her vs. Karen and anything longer than 13:22 is a loss in her mind. Once loose she selected her ball (pictured above). As you can see it is a 16 pounder, 1 pound more than last time. After a short consult with the second fittest woman on the planet (pretty good coach to have in your corner, huh?) her strategy was set. 15 sets of 10. A few practice shots just to feel it and she was ready. 3-2-1 Go! 1 set done, short rest, 2 sets, 3, she is cruising. Only 1:45 in. 4 sets. 5, 6. The pace is beginning to slow. 7, 8, 9, 10. It seems she may have gone out too fast. The exhaustion is clear on her face and the rests are getting longer. She jumps back in fighting the pain that only Karen can induce…ok maybe Fran too. 11, 12, 13, 14. Long rest, drink of water. 15!!! 10:41. HUGE PR. This was the most wrecked I have seen Kris in a while. Great effort. Anyone who has done Karen knows shaving 2 minutes off an already fast time is tough. Nice work Kris. Thanks for letting us share in your killer attitude and outstanding athletic ability. Oh yeah, Kris was strong when she walked in today and stronger when she walked out. Competitive when she walked in and a winner when she walked out. Now that is a productive day at the gym.

Thanks Jeff and everyone for all the nice comments. My legs are still thanking me for Karen. I don’t think sitting on a plane all day helped out much.
