Drinking Your Calories Part 2- Water
Ok, it doesn’t exactly fit the title due to its calorie free nature, but if we are talking beverages we have to include the king. We all know we should hydrate. How many times have you heard people say they know they need to drink more water? I know I say it all the time. It is-or should I say WAS the biggest hole in my game. I work hard at food, sleep, and CrossFit, all to scratch every ounce of performance out of my body. For some reason I never knew the importance of water when it comes to performance improvement. Well, if performance is a motivating factor, which as a CFer it should be, check out this video (here is the wmv version). It was enough to get me drinking 100 oz. per day!

I drink a lot of water every day. Generally a bit more than 100 oz (half my bodyweight in ounces), but I’m sure I have days where I drink less..
My question is who is that guy and what does he base his claims on? Is it purely anecdotal or is he a scientist who has done studies to determine the performance differences of individuals based on the amount of water they drink in a day? Or have these studies been done by others and he’s referencing them?
I understand that dehydration can have negative effects, but how is the “half your body weight in ounces” number determined?

Great questions. Maybe scour the comments section from that day (it was from a few days ago on the main site). There may be answers there. I highly doubt if he is a scientist, but not sure. The key is, and you said it yourself, we all know dehydration can have negative effects, so what if this guy is right? Say your Fran is 10 minutes would you like to have a 9 minute Fran without any extra work, money or time (ok maybe a little time in the bathroom). For me these are the kinds of tips that are priceless for the family man/woman seeking performance. I hear lots of people talk about getting hormone levels tested monthly and going to their PT/massage therapist every two days and all these elaborate/expensive things they do to be a top level performer. I don’t have time or money to do all that, but I can drink some extra water! Try it if you don’t like it, stop. It is a no risk proposition.
