Hilarious! I wonder when we started thinking the anorexic coke-head models were what ladies should strive for. I long for the day when Americans wake up and think lean strong women are really hot and are all over tv and magazines.
Jay, my favorite was the mens wear for “eye catching buttocks”. I’d like to see some of those struttin around the gym!
Jeff, these topics have really had me thinking– we must chat!
Thanks Jay.
Andrea- Wurd. Let’s chat!
Hmmm…trying to figure these posters out! It seems like a lot of the posters are from the 1940′s. In the 1940′s, World War II was going on. I know that there were food rationings going on. One article I read mentioned, “It’s not surprising then to realise that the nation was fitter and slimmer than at any other time in its history. If you lay out this amount of food on a plate it is quite shocking to see how little there is”. Maybe women wanting to have curves was some sort of reaction to this? In looking into this, it was also interesting to me that the famous “Rosie the Riveter” poster came out in 1943 encouraging women’s strength and ability to do any job as they entered the work force while men were at war. Maybe the scrawny girls wanted to emulate their icon Rosie?
It is super interesting to me that now in a time of food abundance and accessibility, we strive to look scrawny!
Anywho…just some random musings, nothing scientific.
Thanks for checking up on some of that Amanda. That sheds some light on things. I had never thought of any of that.

I love it! We are always telling our women that they should strive for fitness, not for thinness. A fit body rocks, skinny isn’t where it’s at! I think this will make an appearance on the CFLT site.
Thanks Lori. Good to hear other gyms wityh the same healthy focus!
