Testing Your Fitness Part 1: The Hill Climb
You test your fitness everyday in the gym, but sometimes it is good to go test it at another venue. Play by someone else’s rules. Take it to the outside world and see if you can hang. Planned events keep you in the gym and spur you on to better nutrition. They add that little bit of pressure that is good for us all. Well, in about a month and a half you will have an opportunity to see what you can do. On September 15th at high noon CFS will be taking on the Forest Park Hill Climb. They have 10 hills of varying difficulties throughout the park. The challenge is to climb as many of them as you can in 30 minutes. Straight forward, simple and painful. Just our style! Click here to find out more info and to register. The cost is a suggested $5 donation. Stick around afterward for a CFS picnic (nothing formal, just bring a lunch).

FUN! (About the hill climb, not so sure about Randy yet…)
6:56 Rx’d
I think I paced/rested too much in the middle and should’ve knocked off 30secs easily. I was doing 7-8 reps in the middle which the last two sets were 15 reps.
Rx’d: 5:49 (14 seconds slower than last time)
4:50 Rx’d
Got 20 at the beginning without stopping, then 15, then 10, then 8-7 each time until I reached 75. I always wonder on these short type of WODs whether to ‘game’ them more, by doing less reps between ‘rests’ at the beginning, or not. In any case, its more fun to just go all out without too much strategy.
The Forest Park Hill Climb sounds like a great idea.
I am frankly embaressed to say how much faster I did this WOD today than the last time I did this WOD over a year ago (which was my first and only time), just because the last time was sooo slow! But I thought I would share it with everybody just to show how much anyone can improve with CrossFit. The last time I did this WOD was on 7/6/09 and my blazing fast time was 9:50, so a 5 minute PR this time. Hard work pays off!
I did this workout in June of 2009 and it took me 9:21. I think doing it the first time we have no idea about pacing and such. Well we’re probably more fit as well.
9:02 rx’d (L)
Randy may be my new fav workout! John your post made me laugh– what an improvement! I can’t even imagine you getting a 9:50 and Casey 9:21.
That (L) is supposed to be a heart symbol. Girls had to do 2.5# more than prescribed. Good thing I’m an overachiever, I could have buckled under that pressure!
Way to rock it 9:15!
I did 11 # (the williams bar) and did at least 10 in a row in the beginning. then it went down hill to about 2 or 3 each. I had to do 50, rather than 75
anyway, my time was 5:20
7:17 scaled the weight to 53#
Dang it! 43#. Please excuse the error.
