Matt’s Big Climb
Most of you know Matt by now. He is that guy who is usually waiting for you to finish up while he is recording his time in his book and stretching! This Sunday he is taking on a serious challenge and putting his CrossFit-ness to the test. He is doing the Scott Firefighter Stair Climb at the Columbia Tower. With 788′ of elevation gain over 69 flights equaling 1311 total stairs this is no small undertaking. To top it all off this challenge is done in full firefighting gear on air (that means breathing air from his bottle). All proceeds from this charitable event go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society which supports research for the cure of blood cancers.
This hits especially close to home this year for Matt and his other District 7 buddies since one of their own, Lieutenant Rick Peters, was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin-Lymphoma. In the past Matt’s times have been just under 20 minutes. This year, powered by CrossFit and the inspiration of his sick firefighting brother he hopes to squash that old time. Support Matt, Rick Peters and the many others fighting blood cancers across the world by donating here. Do us and your District 7 team proud Matt. We are in your corner, every step (literally) of the way!
Three rounds for time of:
275 pound Deadlift, 10 reps
50 Double-unders

Matt you are a star and we are lucky to have you at scfd7 and at cfs! You will do great in the climb!
I also have to add that Matt recently shaved his head (along with about 70 other guys from the department) in honor of Rick (you may have seen it on the news). It was a very cool day to see all these guys supporting each other like that! So proud to be in the scfd7 family!
And here I thoguht it was just thought it was a cool/new haircut. Go Matt!
Awesome – Good Luck Matt…I know you will do really well. I know, I have been one of those people still working out when you are on your way home

Welcome Devin (and hopefully Laurin)!

Sounds like this was a tough DU day for all of us. It took a while, but I did get 5.
Doesn’t sound like you did to bad on the DU’s Ben. Did your practice help yesterday?
You will get them I promise!
Let’s just hope that I have them today at 5:15pm
Yes – every practice day helps! You can do it Kris!!! Listen to the rope…
Matt– good luck! I’m pretty sure the only thing slowing you down will be the people in front of you! You can do it! CFS peeps, I just realized Matt’s @ 46% of his fundraising goals– we can get him there!

As frustrating as the DU’s can be, I’ll take it! First WOD with taking the training wheels off (SU-DU-SU-DU).
Who’d thought we’d ever run out of weights at 5:30am! Words gotten out! Great positive vibes this morning (except for the occasional explicitive at the jump rope). Brandie killed it! (I think she might’ve been done before my first round was done)
Climb hard Matt! Way to do some good work for others!
(by the way, I think there have been occasions where Matt’s been done, recorded the wod and FINISHED stretching before I’m done)
Matt, Climb like the wind my friend. God speed.
Have fun Matt!!!!

Go get ‘em Matt!! Sub 17 no problem for you my friend!
Great Job 5:30 Crew!!
